Articles of Faith

‘We believe that all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.’ 2 Tim. 3: 16 – 17.

We acknowledge the Bible, the Word of God, to be at once the only authoritative directory of Christian faith and practice. In accordance with the Scriptures, we believe ourselves to be sinful and guilty creatures, justly condemned by the holy law of God; but rely on the atoning work of our Lord Jesus Christ as the basis of our acceptance with God. Knowing this, we are justified by faith alone, without the ‘deeds of the law’ and looking for the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Rom. 3: 22 – 24, Gal. 2: 16, Jude 21.

Being fully persuaded that we have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, we rely upon the Divine power to keep us in the way of holiness until ‘He presents us faultless before the presence of His glory.’ Titus 3: 4 – 7, Jude 24 – 25.

We believe that a Church of Christ is an organised assembly of believers, with properly appointed officers; and the object of its constitution is to glorify God. All those who profess faith in Christ and endeavour to live a holy life, are entitled to its privileges. Eph. 4: 11 – 13, Rom. 15: 5 – 7.

We believe the ordinances of the New Testament to be two, namely Believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Matt. 28: 19, Acts 2: 38, 1 Cor. 11: 23.

We also hold as vital to our salvation the true and proper God-head of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, mysteriously united in His perfect manhood, truly God yet truly man. John 1: 1, 14, John 14: 9.

We do not in any sense regard the foregoing as a full confession of faith, but only as a convenient summary of the points of agreement which we deem necessary to the ‘unity of the Spirit’. 1 Cor. 1: 1.
